Top 10 Public Gardens in the US

Brookgreen Gardens is where nature, history and romance collide to produce one of South Carolina’s most magical wonderlands. Steeped in history, the gardens exist on what used to be a rice plantation, just 30 minutes south of Myrtle Beach. Owned and established by Arthur and Anna Hyatt Huntington, the grounds are a showcase of luscious botanical gardens, whimsical sculptures, pretty fountains surrounded by dreamy live oak trees draped in Spanish moss.

Arrive early, take a self guided hike through the Oaks Plantation and Nature Trail, sign up for a sculpting or horticulture workshop, visit the zoo animals or just meander through the grounds soaking your soul with the beauty of nature and filling your spirit with simple pleasures. Every season features something enchanting with special mention to the month of December when the Gardens celebrate ‘Nights of a Thousand Candles’ and New Year’s Eve ‘Garden by Candlelight’.

Brookgreen Gardens has been designated a National Historical Site boasting America’s largest outdoor sculpture collection and has been recognized as one of the Top 10 Public Gardens in the US by Coastal Living Magazine.
